This year’s Fall Mini Sessions at West Park were ones I’ll never forget. What was originally planned as a tidy two-day event turned into four days of beautifully chaotic rescheduling thanks to rain, wind, and a few stubborn thunderstorms. But even with Mother Nature’s curveballs, the sessions turned out to be some of my favorites yet.

A Perfect Setting: West Park

West Park in Carmel was the ideal backdrop for this year’s minis. Its sweeping golden fields, tall grasses, and wide-open spaces held onto their fall color just long enough for us to capture that warm October glow. No matter the time of day, the light filtered softly through the trees and created the most dreamy, timeless images. It offered plenty of room for kids to run, explore, and be themselves—making each session feel natural and relaxed.

Thirty Amazing Families

Over the course of the four days, I photographed 30 families—25 of whom were returning clients I’ve had the joy of photographing year after year. Seeing familiar faces step out of their cars, watching kids who were once toddlers now arriving as confident big kids… it’s one of the most meaningful parts of my job. These sessions become little yearly milestones, tiny time capsules showing just how much can change in twelve months.

The Magic of Returning Clients

Photographing returning families is truly special. There’s a level of trust and comfort that builds over time, and that connection shows in the photos. Kids remember me, parents know what to expect, and the whole experience becomes more relaxed and fun. Getting to document these families as they grow is an honor I don’t take lightly.

It’s no surprise that Fall Mini Sessions have become my most popular offering each year. The shorter session time is perfect for little ones, and the simplicity and ease of minis make them ideal for busy families. You arrive, we have fun for 10–15 minutes, and you walk away with updated photos that feel effortless and authentic. For many families, it’s become an annual tradition—and one I look forward to just as much as they do.
