Being an Indianapolis Family Photographer for the last eight years, I have narrowed down my favorite places to take summer family photos in Indianapolis! These are the locations I am continually going back to because they are easy to find and photograph beautifully! Most of these locations can be found on the northside of Indianapolis in Carmel, Westfield, and Fishers!
Coxhall Gardens
If you want a mixture of nature and architecture, this location is perfect for you! Coxhall Gardens is located in Carmel and have a wide variety of backgrounds. In the center of the park you’ll find a large amphitheater surrounded by beautifully manicured grounds. On the other side of the pond, you will find gorgeous willow trees that provide shade even on the sunniest summer days.
The Ambassador House
Tucked away behind a private drive, you’ll find the beautiful Ambassador House and gardens! The grounds are beautiful year round, but truly my favorite in the middle of summer! The house and large trees also provide some shade and escape from the sun. The Ambassador House is my favorite location for my Summer Mini Sessions!
Flowing Well Park
Truly a hidden gem in the middle of Carmel, Flowing Well Park is unlike any other park around! There are trails leading down the the stream close to the historic well. This location is at the top of my list because of the ability to access the creek! Whether you want to stay dry on the rock or splish-splash through the water, it is a stunning background and has plenty of coverage to protect yourself from the sun!
Flat Fork Creek Park
Just outside of Fishers is Flat Fork Creek Park! The park is filled with bike rails, wildflowers, and a long walking bridge with views of the treehouses. You’ll find plenty of shade on the bridge and under the large trees! On the other side of the park you will even find a small pond and large hill.
Newfields
Newfields is one of my favorite locations throughout the year because of the perfectly kept grounds and gorgeous florals! There are countless locations to take beautiful portraits, so you never have to worry about it being too crowded! They also require a photography permit, so they limit the number of photographers at a time. Due to the permit, sessions can only be scheduled within certain hours on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
The Palladium
Located in the heart of downtown Carmel, you will find the gorgeous Palladium. Indiana Limestone and beautiful planters provide a gorgeous background on even the cloudiest of days. Across the way you will also find a large retention pond and white arbors lining the pathway. This is a great option if there is a chance of rain and you need some coverage but still want to be outside.
MacGregor Park
MacGregor Park in Westfield is my go-to location for an open field! There are beautiful wildflowers throughout, and plenty of trails that provide shad on a sunny day.
Village of West Clay
Last but not least, is the Village of West Clay. There is a fountain located in front of the Meeting House off the main street. Across the way, you will find open paths lined with beautiful landscaping. It is dog friendly and very close to other parks like Coxhall Gardens and West Park.
